Rencol, based in Patchway, Bristol is taking part in this year’s national Learning at Work day on Thursday 24th May. The company, a manufacturer of tolerance rings, is already well known in the area for offering superb working conditions, including flexible working and career development, to its local workforce and Rencol’s participation in Learning at Work day reinforces this commitment.
Learning at Work day is an annual awareness and activity day pioneered and coordinated by Campaign for Learning, an independent charity that champions workplace learning for all UK employees and to all employers. This year’s Learning at Work day is being held on 24th May with businesses across the country participating.
Amongst the activities, Rencol’s Learning at Work day includes opportunities for employees to take part in half-day job swaps, take a site tour of Rencol’s parent company – Wyko, an ERIKS company based in Halesowen in the West Midlands, or have a healthy living check up. Employees have also been invited to nominate colleagues and departments for its Learner of the Year awards.
Rencol’s participation in the Learning at Work day complements another of its employee training initiatives where each year employees are given a £100 voucher to spend on a training course of their choice. Chris Roberts, HR manager at Rencol explains: “It does not have to be related to their job, it can be anything they are interested in or want to improve. We are really interested in creating a culture where our employees are able to develop themselves as individuals.”
The Learning at Work day provides employees with the opportunity to discuss what course they might want to spend this voucher on with a representative from Avon Online, a virtual learn direct centre. Additionally, an NVQ assessor will be available for informal chats about possible NVQ courses which they can attend.
