Rencol presents its Tolerance Rings for Magnet Sensors
at Vehicle Dynamics Expo 2007
Rencol is announcing that it will participate in this year’s Vehicle Dynamics Expo at the Exhibition & Conference Centre, Stuttgart, May 8-10, 2007, and will be showing its Tolerance Rings designed for the automotive industry. In Hall 5.2, Stand 2320, Rencol will exhibit its sprung Tolerance Rings providing a complete solution to allow magnet assemblies to be press fitted without risk of damage.
Simple in concept and easy to use, Tolerance Rings offer convenient and cost-effective solutions for an impressively wide range of automotive applications. The Tolerance Ring is a radial spring that is press fitted between two mating components, generating a retention force that fixes those components together.
The growing demand for convenience and safety functions in modern vehicles requires the integration of sophisticated automotive systems, e.g. ABS, ESP or ACC. These systems require the detection of rotational movement and discrete angular positions are absolutely essential. The detection of steering angle, pedal and gear lever detection and positions of valves in motor management and climate control units have high demands to the sensor devices, and frequently incorporate magnets manufactured from powdered metal.
In the magnet assembly fitted with a Tolerance Ring, the fitting force can be accurately determined by the design of the ring and no longer depends heavily on component tolerances, which eliminates the risk of damage.
Thanks to the resilient nature of Rencol’s Tolerance Rings, the magnet arrangement also provides the magnet sensors with useful degree of protection against vibration and shock.
And finally, the use of a Tolerance Ring allows the magnet to be aligned after assembly of the poles.
Tolerance Rings occupy very little space, and they can be used in even the most compact of assemblies. They are easy to assemble and fit, with no special equipment or machines required. Tolerance Rings are a convenient, versatile and inexpensive solution, yet they solve a whole range of design problems.
